we parked at the drivable end of bear tree road in orford near a 3 way split. north goes to a residence, south into an active logging operation and west is gated about 50 yards past where we parked. there is a turn around that looks to sometimes get plowed. today we met a logger who told us it was ok to just park where the road is currently unplowed. be very careful not to block truck access to or from the road heading south. |

we briefly walked bear tree road then headed on a line to pick up the south ridge of indian pond mountain. a bit of messy logged woods in spots. open hardwoods along the ridge then conifer woods with some blowdown to navigate around up to the recognized highpoint. snow depth pretty minimal with no base in spots. snowshoes still the best choice. descended in our tracks. |
