Solidly packed trail with postholes along the edges, some monorail in places. Microspikes the whole way, though I carried snowshoes. All the scrambles along the cascades remain filled with snow - there is a faint bypass around the most exposed one, which I used on the descent. There is also an ice bulge to manuver around on the sidehill by Jobildunk Ravine. Trees were iced and rimed up high. A dusting of new snow on the upper mountain contributed to minor traction clumping. Iced rocks on the alpine area, nothing serious. Summit temp 31F @ 12:30 pm, winds 5-10mph. Boot glissade for much of the way down ( with microspikes ), care needed near the cascades ! Shelter and new privy are looking good. Had the hill to myself, saw no one all day. Some may find it a little steep & slippery, but really the trail is in great shape. Hike it ! |
