It felt like a Spring hike today. 2 of us went up 19 Mile Brook Tr to Carter Notch. Plenty of ice down below. Beyond the Carter Dome Tr junction, there was a lot of open areas with running water and thin snow. Wherever there was snow, it was hard. Basically, the whole trail was a mess. The ascent up to A peak up Wildcat Ridge Tr was a hard packed monorail to the top with some patches of ice scattered around. The trail between A and D peaks was packed out with a hard snow and pockets of ice along steeper areas. Polecat Ski Tr was groomed but we saw plenty of semi open areas on ungroomed trails. Overall, the snow cover is thin but hard with areas of ice. We wore microspikes the whole day and our snowshoes took a ride. |
