Perfect microspike day. Carried snowshoes but never needed them. Lower half of trail thin ice and often bare rock, then becoming packed sidewalk. Damn near wheelchair accessible. Upper half packed and solid - though a barebooter or two went through over the weekend when the temps were warm so there are some impressive frozen deep postholes on the upper third of the trail. Didn’t affect our hike though. We just stepped over them. Saw four other people and one handsome happy dog. All (the people) wore microspikes. Snowshoes were not at all needed (though it is a good idea to always bring them during winter just in case). |
