Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Livermore, NH
Trails
Trails: Route 113, Old Highway, Prescott Trail, Crawford-Ridgepole Trail, Old Mountain Road
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, January 11, 2020
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: No parking at the actual trailhead, so we parked 0.2 miles away at the Cotton Mountain trailhead. That was plowed but icy, though the warmer temperatures and rain will probably turn it into slush.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow - Wet/Sticky
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing more than a one-step crossing.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails were well marked with yellow diamonds, and all junctions had signs. Neither end of Old Highway has a trail sign, however the Burleigh Farm end has a road sign marking the trail, and the Route 113 end is clearly visible next to a driveway (the snowbank there is not high enough to obscure the trail from the road).
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw three on the trail. They shouldn't have any issues - the snow is mostly not that deep.
Bugs
Bugs: I actually saw a few.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nada.

Comments
Comments: Fun hike up Mt. Livermore. Old Highway is severely eroded in parts, but the trail was obvious. We started out barebooting, but after a few tenths we switched to snowshoes, which we kept on the rest of the hike. Snow depth was between 6 inches and a foot. Prescott Trail was partly but not completely packed out, and snowshoes are still needed there. Micro-spikes would not have helped there, or anywhere, because there was very little visible ice and the snow was very soft. The snow depth going up to Livermore and along the ridge varied widely - some small areas had well over a foot, while most of it was less than a foot. The views from the summit of Livermore were amazing. Crawford-Ridgepole Trail did not appear to be packed out past the junction with Old Mountain Road. Old Mountain Road had a snowshoe track that we followed and firmed up.
