we parked at the west ridge trailhead on cardigan mountain road in orange. |

from the parking lot we took a direct line on hoyt. after negotiating a swampy area in the saddle just below the parking lot we had good open woods all the way to the summit. the snow was decidedly more wet and sticky than on an earlier hike nearby. great base for snowshoeing. |
