Started hike at 6:05am wearing microspikes. There was about one inch new snow near trailhead and 3 inches further in. Trail packed under fresh snow. Changed into snow shoes at beginning of steep section up Hancock. I had thought about putting them on sooner. Televators made ascent easy. Snowshoes stayed on for the rest of the hike to Hancock South and out to parking lot. A group of about ten hikers coming in when I was hiking out were all wearing snowshoes, so trail well packed. Not sure how far in they made it. The tracks made by hiker who started before me were already covered with snow drifts 12 to 16 inches deep in spots along ridge. A reminder of how quickly our tracks can disappear. Was able to walk/slide down steep section from Hancock South. Had a fun hike! |
