| Comments: |
1" of new snow at the trail head; maybe 3" of new snow at the summits with occasional 12" +/- drifting on the ridge. The trail base is well packed and easily followed, even on the ridge. I hiked early and saw quite a few hikers headed up on my way down, many with snowshoes (thank you). I used micros up to the where the loop trail splits, then switched to snowshoes for the added traction and mechanical advantage on the ascent up North Handcock, and then kept them on for the rest of the hike all the way back to the parking lot. The descent from South Handcock was slippery with the new snow, more like skiing that snowshoeing. |
