I started in snowshoes but quickly changed to light traction for the rest of the hike. Snow pack was somewhat soft, but also minimal in depth with lots of rocks popping through. Former icy areas had turned to slush.
A real mixed bag of weather, with no precipitation at the start, steady snow up top, and then rain at the end. Temps stayed above the forecasted freezing mark, so if that trend continues, the snow will diminish even more. It's not supposed to rain in January. : /
Several other people out, but fairly quiet on this peak today. Views were disappearing by the time I left the summit ledges, but still a great hike with the falling snow up higher.
(Indian Head Trail looked well-traveled and at the moment there's no issue driving into the trailhead from US 3.) |
