Comments
Comments: Beautiful day. Lincoln Woods trail well traveled and easy going, with bare boots. On Black Pond, Lincoln Brook, and bushwhacks, 3-4" new snow on packed trail, so we used snowshoes. Strayed off main trail shortly after Lafayette Brook crossing, but were able to find it on the return. Strayed off Brutus bushwhack about 1/4 mile after the small ravine and ascended directly to the saddle through scrub; very steep (would not recommend following our trail). After joining Owl's Head path at saddle, snowshoed north along ridgeline for 20 minutes; no clear sign of summit. Return was straightforward; used headlamps for last hour. Ca 16.6 miles, 10 hours.
