Opted for microspikes the whole way, but snowshoes definitely would have been a better choice from Livermore Trail onward. Started with an out-and-back up Mt. Tecumseh- well-broken trail with 1-3" of fresh snow on top. Microspikes were fine here (pending additional new snow from yesterday), but there was enough cover to accommodate snowshoes as well. Walked over to the Livermore trailhead on the Pipeline XC trail and Tripoli Rd. I tracked out Livermore Road/Trail in both directions; it was snowing pretty decently above 2500', and my tracks were essentially filled in by the time I returned. Snow depths were 1-3" lower down, approaching 6" towards the top of Scaur Ridge Trail. When I reached the junction of the Pine Bend Brook Trail, there was one set of snowshoe tracks heading up towards North and Middle Tripyramid, but I'd had my fill of trail breaking, and knew the trip back wasn't going to be any easier once I reached the flats of Livermore Trail. There will probably be no trace of my efforts by the time of this report- snowshoes here until further notice! |
