Comments
Comments: Snow depths are low for this time of year especially below the Nineteen Mile Brook Trail junction with the Carter Dome Trail. Lots of ice and frozen slush. The snow surface on the Wildcat Ridge Trail is very hard packed frozen granular with boot steps in many places which provides a more sure-footed passage in the steepest sections. Microspikes are file for the Nineteen Mile Brook Trail. Trail crampons provide improved traction on the Wildcat Ridge Trail (especially on descent)although many hikers were successful with Microspikes. No difficulty traversing the slide section of the Wildcat Ridge Trail.
Today's hike had an international touch. Three hikers from eastern Russia, a New Zealander, and a Canadian. Also met many New Englanders. Many hikers staying at the hut or hiking Carter Dome.
The Wildcat Ridge Trail leading south from Wildcat A was well packed out. I only went a short distance to the south.
