Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The main crossing on the northern branch of Imp Trail at .8 miles was a bit sketchy with deep, fast running water under a partial ice bridge. It looked like it would hold us but we opted to straddle/scoot along a large fallen birch just to the left of the trail crossing. Fin (50 pounds) ran across the ice bridge no problem. The multiple small stream crossings before the North Carter intersection were all mostly bridged and easy, with the exception of one that was covered in heavy, slanted ice flows and required a little more care.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of blowdowns/lean-overs on the Imp Trail, particularly the south branch that we descended. All easy to navigate over/under/around.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The imp trail had plenty of ice but Fin easily navigated her way around it. No scrambling on these trails - they are great for most dogs.

Comments
Comments: Spectacular day redlining the Imp Trail and North Carter Trail. Spikes from car to roadwalk at the end. The trail was very bony up until 3000'. Mix of bare stretches with plenty of ice (nothing treacherous) and hard snowpack. Spikes worked great. Once we hit North Carter trail it was 95% hard snowpack with the occasional ice patch-trails were in awesome shape from this point upwards. Fin and I tagged North Carter at the end and the Carter-Moriah trail was a lot softer north of the North carter intersection-snowshoes would have been useful but not necessary. Saw 4 other hikers all day and there was almost zero wind along the entire ridge, with awesome views in all directions. I had to drag Dan over to South Carter because his "legs were tired"....YOUR WELCOME, DAN!!! 23/48 for Fin the dog
