Beautiful weather. Snow was minimal but ice (especially going up South) was ever present. Can be done barebooted, but would suggest spikes for traction and safety. All this will change in next 48 hours if ice and snow fall as predicted though. South Peak has nice views, but remember this is the site where 32 people died in a horrible plane crash in 1968 so while the views are nice the area deserves solemn respect (note folks have been moving plane remnants around, several are at the summit post now). North has limited views but what are there from the ledges are nice to Vermont and peak-a-boo to Smarts and the Whites. The Moose Shelter was in great shape and made a good lunch spot, the privy is classic with 2-half walls and a roof, privy with view. Old Wolfboro Rd down to Harris Trail, Old Wolfboro is a bit rough but is an old woods road so is to be expected. A swing by the Dartmouth Class of 66 Lodge was also done on the way down and it is still a striking wood lodge and rather pretty (their privy is enclosed in case anyone was wondering). A bushwack from the end of Wetlands Overlook (dead ends) back to Three Mile Road. |
