Yesterday (Saturday) was warm and sunny, making for a beautiful day in the mountains. Hiked the Beebe Trail (white blazes) and the Wapack Trail (yellow blazes) south to the area known as the Temple Ledges. The trails really have varying conditions right now. The majority of the ground cover is a mix of snow and crusty ice, with pure ice in some sections, completely bare ground for about 50 feet on the north ridge of Temple, and even a touch of mud from the warm sun yesterday. I wore micro spikes the entire hike from my car just to make things easier. It may have been overkill for only a few short sections, otherwise they did the job. You probably could get away with lesser traction and much care. |
