Parking/Access Road Notes: at least a dozen cars at the 302 lot at 7:15am. and maybe 10 at 11:30 am.

Surface Conditions: Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular

Recommended Equipment: Light Traction 
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: mostly OK but one was a little tricky due to ice and bare rocks too far apart. some wet spots had to be bypassed. 
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: a few blowdowns/leaners that were not much trouble. 
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: no dogs and only 3 other hikers up to Hale. lots of people on Zealand rd. on return coming from both directions. a hiker on Hale summit said he was from Littleton Mass. we had a laugh over that.

Comments: the long walk on Zealand rd. was made tough because of the many frozen footprints. it felt like rumble strips while driving on a highway. the trail was much smoother and had less ice and my hillsounds were just right. that makes 11 down for the 48 at age 70+.
