Comments
Comments: No wind!! Again!! Had to hike something before it all turns to crap again.
I started in spikes, changed to crampons for the North steeps, then to snowshoes for the ridge and then crampons to descend the South steeps, then spikes on the flats. The crampons were not absolutely necessary, everyone else wore spikes. The crampons did give me a measure of confidence that I appreciated; helped me relax. I had an ice ax, but never needed it. While I snowshoed the ridge, spikes would be just fine. It's hardpack and flat. Most of the steeps were packed white hardpack snow, that crampons or spikes bit into good. There was a lot more butt sliding done on the South side, than on the North side. Something to keep in mind with the coming rain.
