Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All three crossings are currently ice bridged and getting fatter by the day. The third crossing has a bobber when you step on it it moves but its so big, i ended up pretending I was surfing. The LB crossing, if you where to take the 'long' way from Franconia Brook is iced over, but nowhere near thick enough to support a human

Comments
Comments: A great day for the Owl for December grid! (9/12 now.) Barebooted the entire way until the second crossing where I put spikes on solely for some extra bite while hopping along the ice. Minimal snow depth throughout the trip, making Brutus mildly difficult. Black Pond whack is currently broken out much lower than normal with a slew of pointless ups and downs, but it will get you there. Brutus is broken also a little funky as it turns away from the drainage much earlier and goes into scrappy stuff. I ended up taking a compass bearing and made my own way. As noted in a prior post, there is a set of snowshoe tracks that leaves the whack early, I did not see them rejoin but did see a set of snowshoe tracks coming north from the height of land (the 'old' summit of owls.) wondering if they went into the Col bewteen S Owls Head and the Height of Land. The trail currently along the ridge is slightly deviated from the normal herd path but it does get you there. Also, it continues well past the summit. I tried to put some down branches to help keep people from blowing by it. All in all a great day, mid 20's, no wind, the only person I saw was a shirtless Rich G :P
