When its cold as it was today, micro spikes don't work well in the glades where the trail is hard and slick from skiers. Crampons or MSRs will work much better. I met three folks using micro spikes and all three turned around and went back. Met three with crampons who had no problems. I used my MSRs and had no problems. The final trail up the open ridge to the top is basically gone. With good visibility a whack up presents no problem. Heading down in zero visibility could be quite difficult. If you're caught up there in those conditions I would recommend using the extreme right ski trail picking up the Kinsman Glade trail which goes off to the right and will put you safely back on the hiking trail. |
