| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked in lot by gate at west end of Gale River Road. It was snow over ice, with a small berm by the roadside, but okay at this point. Not sure if it had really been plowed. There also was parking available by the intersection of Route 3 and Trudeau Road. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Standing/Running Water on Trail |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
For the three major crossings, the ice bridges seemed adequate today, though not robust. There was evidence of at least one misstep onto too-thin ice. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few step-overs and duck-unders, but no troublesome blowdowns. Brushing seemed generally good. Blazing was sparse in places. Signage seemed fine. |

| Comments: |
Barebooted on Gale River Road from parking area to trailhead; microspiked from there on up. Boot tracks, presumably from Saturday, from parking area to summit. Not a lot of snow depth on the lower and mid portions of the trail. Bony - roots and rocks poking out here and there. Several sections of wet trail including water running down the trail. Occasional very icy spots evident under the snow. Uppermost portion of the trail might have been snowshoeable, but it was very manageable in microspikes without postholing. Carried snowshoes and full crampons, but never tempted to switch to either of them. Five other hikers on the trail today. Welcome to Winter! |
