Last of the fall.
Switched to crampons early on BLT and needed them for the ledges. Having done the ledges a few times in winter I found a a couple of scrambles tricky today. One section (I call the "big step") was particularly difficult, with a mix of ice and bare rock approching and an ice flow to the left side, I needed the ice axe to get up it. It appears that some turned around at this point.
Followed a single set of tracks down Rollins, switched to snowshoes for the drifts and kept them on up Passaconaway. Snowshoes are still a good idea for Rollins. Spikes were fine for decending Dicey's Mill.
I only saw two other hikers heading up Whiteface, which I passed about a mile in. There was a good amount of traffic going up Passaconaway via Dicey's Mill. |
