Comments
Comments: Well we set out for Monroe and Washington today. We got to the Ammo lot and found the trail unbroken. We were thinking that the ammo cut off from the cog may be so we decided to go up there. When we went inside the people said that two days prior 2 people went out via the ammo and had it done within 6 hours. We geared up and went over to look at the ammo cut off to see a barebooter who just went to look at the sign and stop.

We decided to go for just big old Washington. We figured someone would have been out there but we were wrong and decided the open cog would have less snow than a tunnel trail with the possibility of snow coming off trees and being on the trail too. The snow was powder and about 4-6" with maybe a 8-10" drift only once or twice up high. We were given blue skies ahead and undercast behind us. We started out at the car with -2 and by the time we ended it was 8. Once we got to jacob's ladder we took a photo and soon after when we got close to a more exposed area, we put our heavy layers on. Jen had her googles out and I have them if I wanted them on the side of my pack. We headed up and did not see as much blowing snow as earlier on. The wind was not as terrible as you would think. Once we came close to the gulfside trail did the ground turn to either ice or hard crusted snow. We saw our first person on the observation deck and figured it was a worker. We got to the top to see the snowcat and what we figured was that worker out taking photos. It was an amazing day out for sure. We spoke to the snowcat operator and he said it was about 34 mph constant wind up there which was a lot better than the day before hitting 110 mph. We got into a pocket with not much wind and ate lunch to fuel up. We then headed back down the cog, the same way.We were cruising and it seemed the wind had died down even more. We waited til we got back to Jacob's ladder and delayered again as I was on fire! Oh winter conditions. We then saw 3 skiers and 2 dogs just above the waumbek tank (3800'). They were the only ones we saw and they looked to be going a little further to then turn around. I hope they did ok as the 5" of powder was not packed at all and we had been hitting rocks and such on the way up and back. All in all a good day.
