Alot can happen in one day. The conditions in the morning were fantastic. Used Microspikes up to the beginning of BW without issue. Wore snowshoes across BW and out to summit. On the way back across the BW the snow started to soften. When I got back out to the Rocky Branch Trail it was mushy. If you ventured off the packed trail by a foot you were thigh deep even with snowshoes. Found a couple of exhilarating trapdoors that left my snowshoes dangling in the air below the snow. Some dirt patches opened up by afternoon down low. If there is another cold night, this is still a nice hike. |
