I only went to East Osceola today so can't speak for the condition of the trail along the ridge over to the main peak; from what I could see from East summit, it looked good though. Beautiful day with a very cold start but no wind until you got up to the lookout just before the East summit. Trails up to East were well packed. I used spikes the whole day as did several others that I saw; there were also a few people in snowshoes. Either is appropriate right now. For those that don't know, the Mt Osceola trail up to East is super steep, but there is good snow coverage right now and no exposed ice. Just have to be careful with footing. After the rain that's forecasted to come in tonite/tomorrow though, it could turn into an icy luge run! On my way out, I took a side hike over to both of the Greeley ponds. Nice trail, well packed, spikes were fine. |
