started up at 7am with 2-3" of fresh powder on the trail. once I was up about 1/2 way it started to get deeper and was 6-8" up high. this was on top of well packed older snow. the final push was the toughest as the drifts made it hard to find the trail. at least I was able to use my packed path on the way down and 4 other hikers were glad for the snowshoed track as they had spikes on. this is a tough winter hike cause of the steepness and almost felt like a 10 miler. maybe it's because that makes 9 down of the 48 over 70. takes longer to recover at this age! |
