 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
There is only room for 5-6 cars off the road at this trailhead. In the winter time it would be impossible to park on the shoulder of the road to create extra spots. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Ice - Black, Wet/Slippery Rock, Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Only 2 water crossings and they were easily negotiable. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Maybe 3-4 blow-downs but easy to get over. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Only encountered a few well-behaved dogs. This trail would be easily doable for dogs. |

 | Comments: |
I did not put on microspikes until I got to the ledges but now realize doing so earlier would have made the hike easier. There were several areas of packed down snow and ice interspersed with rocks that were slippery. There was black ice on the ledges approaching the summit requiring care with footing. The views from the fire tower were spectacular. The fire tower is enclosed, un-manned, immaculately maintained and hikers are allowed to camp inside. Wow! I had no idea. No fires at or around the fire tower, though, as it is a protected forest area. |
