Comments
Comments: Some freshly fallen powdery snow on top of a solid packed base layer with some hidden icy spots. The worst ice section is just uphill from the junction with the Watson Path where there is an alternate route just to the side of the actual trail. The deepest snow was on the Osgood Trail to the summit of Mt Madison where there were spots that were at least a foot deep. Minor drifting. The powdery snow cover made the going slightly slower than on Sunday. The cairns on the Osgood Trail are large and quite obvious. My outer layer was soaked from the snow on the evergreen boughs on Valley Way.
Beautiful undercast today. The Presidential peaks and the Carter - Wildcat summits were above the clouds.
Nice to talk with Wyatt on the hike down the mountain.
Three guys back at Appalachia indicated there were some deep snow drift areas on the Air Line to Mt Adams. I don't think they were wearing gaiters. Soon snowshoes will make sense on these northern presidential hikes.
