A couple of inches of new snow this morning. Snow at the trailhead was wet/packing snow. I started with microspikes, but traction was lacking, so I changed to snowshoes after about 100 feet, and wore them to the summit and back. Trail conditions below the glades were a little rocky, but above the glades to the summit there was enough of a base such that the conditions were really pretty decent for snowshoeing. Really nice to take advantage of the heal-risers and traction on the steeper sections. I realize there will probably be some significant snow melt with today's warm temperatures, definitely at the trailheads and lower elevations, so this report may be outdated by the time its posted. |
