Parking/Access Road Notes

Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Black, Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Two decent ones on Carter dome trail. The first requires some analysis before sending it. The second is an easy step over, but you need to be cautious of which spot is solid footing and which will break away when you step on it.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of blowdowns, a couple nasty ones on nineteen mile brook trail require either a belly crawl or a pole vault.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: saw some pupper tracks on my way in but never caught up with the owner or saw any others.
Bugs
Bugs: Might be a few degrees too cold for insects.

Comments
Comments: Cold! But A cold winter wonderland!

Started by moonlight shortly before sunrise. The moon reflecting off the snow on Washington was quite a site on the ride in.
Wore micro spikes the entire trek. 19 mile brook trail was nicely packed down. The snow from Zeta pass to the summit of Hight got progressively deeper, some decent drifts in spots. Still easily passable without snow shoes, but caution had to be taken on the final scramble to the summit to assure where there was stable footing and not a 2’ drift.

The views were absolutely phenomenal from the top, but it was too windy to hang around for long. I snagged a few videos and then bolted for treeline.

I met a few friendly folks that were on their way up. I met three separate groups, Each with 10+ kiddos with a pair of adult chaperones headed in. Should be a fun adventure for them (as long as they knew what they were signing up for!).
