At 2.8 mi where the Sabbaday Tr turns sharply right and descends to the brook, I headed uphill to the NE ridge of E Sleeper. Holy Hobblebush! Persistent thick entangling shrubs made the steepish ascent a bit of a chore. Given all the blowdown on on the Kate Sleeper Tr, I shouldn’t have been surprised by all the downed trees along the ridge. Most of the nastiness was avoidable but required a lot of bobbing and weaving. The last few tenths to summit weren’t bad.
This route is a bit shorter with less elevation gain than others, but the hobblebush and blowdown prevalence on the wack are negatives. Deep snow, covering most of these obstacles could improve this approach. |
