 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Crossings were pretty easy. I did not cross Eliza Brook but it was doable with stepping on a couple of barely submerged rocks. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Lots of blowdowns on north side of Mt Wolf. Not much from Dilly Trail to Eliza Brook shelter except one very big one. A couple coming down Mt Wolf also required a little bushwhacking to get around them.
Eliza Brook shelter is still in great shape, except peg holes weren't cut deep enough so pegs are useless for anything much heavier than a hat. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw no dogs and no humans in two days, just ruffed grouse and fresh moose and bear tracks. |

 | Comments: |
Chose a moderate backpack to mark end of daylight savings time, 7.5 from NH112 (Kinsman Notch) to Eliza Brook shelter. Turned out harder than I'd planned because of need to get around black ice on scattered rocks (I brought microspikes but did not use them), boggy places, and numerous blowdowns, some quite massive. No way I could have gone on to do Kinsmen and stay at Kinsman Pond, my usual hike--trail slowed me down this time. Despite blowdowns, woods were beautiful in the sunlight coming and going and hiking temps were nice and cool, sleeping temps not too cold. |
