Comments
Comments: crawford path well packed out. we got first tracks across the ridge to eisenhower. at most a few inches of snow that got progressively more sticky over a deep consolidated base. at first we just went along the ridge roughly following the route of the trail, but closer to eisenhower the trail became more obvious where snow was blown off. a little ice in the usual places. eisenhower loop easy to follow with some ice as well, but not too bad. some interesting route finding between pierce and mizpah. loads of snow on pierce made the trail up high indiscernible so we just headed towards south pierce through the friendliest woods we could find eventually finding the trail corridor at the start of the climb up south pierce. after that it was pretty easy to follow down to mizpah. we made one mistake following an old trough leaving mizpah hut and ended up on the mizpah cut-off for a short bit before realizing the mistake and back tracking to cut over to webster cliff trail. to jackson route finding remained interesting though there were a fair number of blazes visible and traces of a previous track still existed in sections. we headed up the final climb to jackson a little early, but tracks will get you to the summit just fine. a bit of ice coming off jackson towards notch. webster jackson trail was packed out and well travelled. wore snowshoes the whole hike, but carried crampons which some may want for eisenhowers cone.
amazing day. beautiful skies and great views. snow conditions were nice (a bit sticky later in the day) and there is a lot of it up there right now. lots of route finding. doesn't seem like the trail between pierce and jackson has been getting much use. thanks to cynthia for a great hike.
