Comments: 1960 WMG has Loon Pond Trail and it appears to have been abandoned shortly afterwards. We attempted to follow what we thought might have been the brook, about a third of the way to Little Loon Pond we found a couple of places that sure looked like it was a trail corridor. I do realize that this has been logged and I know there used to be snowshoe trails here before South Peak ski expansion. Loon Pond Brook is lovely and it had some water flowing since it rained the night before our hike. Not easy walking the drainage is steep and I'd call it a ravine or gorge for a good distance, lots of nice ledge and rocks. There was an old dam made with logs/stringer that were notched and were still doing there job. I never realized how close Little Loon Pond was to Upper Speak Easy ski trail! Lots of beer cans and a blue tarp on the ledges at south end of the pond, we walked all the way around the pond. We crossed under the Tote-Road Quad and hit Loon Pond just east of the dam. We walked over the dam and followed the path, looking for the area marked on the old map "View Pt.", the path soon became more of a grown in logging road and when it started to take us west we began to bushwhack to the South Peak. Found register hung in 2000 and only four other have signed it. On our return we hunted more for the view point and found some good ledges and circled them but could not find a view to the point, the trees are thick and tall. We returned to the path and back over the dam and went up to the ski area's south peak and hiked down Boom until we were below the gorge section of the brook and bushwhacked back. We found an old sled runner on the side hill. we followed the brook back down to the public water supply. Good fun.
