 | Water Crossing Notes: |
With waterproof boots the crossings were all manageable. I went across the big white birch log upstream of the crossing on Passaconaway Cutoff, like many others. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There were a lot of wet and mucky spots, especially after a rainy evening. None of the blowdowns presented problems. Parts of Square Ledge Trail are difficult to follow, especially with autumn leaves down on the trail. I wound up off trail at one point. With a rock in front of me and the sheer cliff on my right, the trail could only be to my left, and I re-found it after wandering around a bit. Distances are not long in here so take your time and remember how you got there. Look for evidence of being on trail such as cut branches and logs, and footprints. At times I wasn't sure I was on trail even though I was. At one point I saw a tiny arrow sign only because I looked up at exactly the right time. Some additional signage would help. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Seela, Alpine, and Maia are GOOD GIRLS! Two friendly shelties and a beautiful I-don't-know-what. Their two-legged friends said the girls wore their leashes for safety near the ledges. |

 | Comments: |
I did the loop clockwise, and met three parties of two going counterclockwise. The way I went got the sloppier parts of the route over with early in the day and gave some great views through the trees of Square Ledge, with the sunlight on it on the approach. Route finding might have been easier in the other direction, but I'm not sure about that. |
