| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Gates are still open. Mind the bumper crop of potholes in the opening stretch of road after the campground. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Water crossings were mostly OK, however the bog bridge on the upper section of the Twinway is sorely in need of replacement. There are at least a couple sections where an end is floating -- beware, or suffer wet feet! |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails, other than the aforementioned bog bridge, are in superlative shape. Some of the best maintained in the Whites. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
A yellow lab at the hut who was blissfully enjoying the weather. |

| Comments: |
Apart from some rain that blew in somewhat unexpectedly, it was a fantastic day. Trails are in amazing shape, although that doesn't make climbing the Twinway from the hut any easier. Views from Zealand's summit are still... attenuated. But the views from Zeacliff are still breathtaking.
Note: the huts that are open (Lonesome Lake, Zealand, Carter Notch) are now officially on caretaker basis only. There was instant coffee and some herbal tea (and requisite hot water for same) but not much else. No more yummy baked goods. :(
Photos and a more detailed description are on my blog. |
