Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We parked at the lot on Gale River Loop by the trailhead. We got the last spot at 8 A.M. , but when we came down, there were about 50 cars parked along the side of the road, so parking is clearly not an issue if you get there later.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All Rock-hop-able, but some spots it is worth it to choose your spot to cross carefully.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Blowdowns x 3-4. Only one is difficult to get around, but really fine.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Quite a few dogs on the trail. Impressive that they (the 2 in front of us) could get up the last steep part that was ice covered!
Bugs
Bugs: none

Comments
Comments: This trail was well marked with blue blazes and easy to follow.
Beautiful, dry foliage at the beginning, but later the trail had standing or running water. Had to tread carefully not to get in deep mud or water. Later the trees were frost covered, and the summit was a winter wonderland that was impressive for October. We did not have our micro spikes, but even if we did, we would only have used them for a bit on the summit, bc the way up the steep section was only covered in a glaze of ice intermittently. There were no views at the top, (we were in a cloud),but exciting to see the frozen winter landscape. We were super careful coming down the steep section, but it was really fine if you take your time.
