| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
One other car in the (pay) hiker parking lot below the Cog. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
We parked at the Cog hiker parking. Crossing by the Cog station was uninviting so we crossed the bridge uphill beside the tracks, taking the short but fairly obvious bushwhack back to the trail. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails were in great shape. One minor blowdown on Jewell. |
|

Couple on the summit. |

| Comments: |
Snow appeared at about 4000' on Jewell and increased with elevation thereafter. Jewell above timberline had its usual tediousness, with neither bare boots nor spikes being optimal. We put on spikes at around 4800' and wore them to the summit and back finding perfect conditions for spikes on Gulfside and above.
Wonderful, scenic hike with Chris. |
