Comments
Comments: The guide says the Shelburne trail is “lightly used.” I found it to be “less used” meaning that it is clearly used with some regular frequency, much more so than, say, the Moriah Brook. It is less used than, say, the Carter Moriah trail. The footpath was easy to follow. This includes moderate interference with leaf litter. The wide trail corridor from the start of Shelburne at FR 95 up to the jct with the Kenduskeag was clear, marked with approximately 6 faded yellow blazes over the course of 4 miles, with no major directional changes. There was also excellent signage including arrows and carins on the Shelburne.

The Kenduskeag is also less used but the footbed is easy to follow. I counted about 3 very faded blue blazes over the 1.4 miles that I covered on this trail from the jct with Shelburne to the summit of Shelburne Moriah. The trail corridor is more narrow than that of the Shelburne but still simple to follow.

The summit appears to be marked with a large carin. But visibility was limited to about 15 to 20 feet with the thick clouds so I’m not sure if there was a different summit marking. It looked as if I was on the summit plateau and after following the carins a bit more on the open (bald) summit, it seemed as if I was at the high point on this trail. I also saw evidence of old fire tower anchors near the large carin.

Met one and only one hiker on the Kenduskeag, no one on the Shelburne. I still wore bright orange on the grass road walk at the start of the Shelburne in case hunters were out and about...
