Really liked this trail, that first 1.5 miles is for real. Shortly after the shelter it levels out, although there's lots of rocks and roots so footing is uneven. Ascent up to summit is never too steep. As expected, it was windy and cold above treeline, needed hat and gloves and sat in one of the windbreaks. Views were fantastic, starting to see patches of color. Saw no one on the way up, and had the summit to myself. Had planned to hit South Peak, but it was pretty chilly, so I figured I'd just add South Twin to my planned North Twin hike on the way home, knowing it was going to warm up later in the day. Saw about a dozen hikers on my way down. Herd path to Mt Blue was easy to follow. Really nice hike. |
