Comments: Bearcamp River Trail - (Beede Falls to Upper Road)

Even knowing the trail is no longer open to through hiking, I've been wanting to scope out what remains open of this trail for sometime. We opted to take it in sections, as we were not really certain where the "closure" was.

Refer to AMC 28th edition for a great trail description.

-Beede Falls to Dale Road: well blazed and signed. Passed Israel Gilman's grave site. Lovely cascades and falls (Secret Falls) along the eastern portion of this section.

-Dale Road walk: gravel

-Mt. Israel Road walk: paved

-Mt. Israel Road to Elm Hill Road: well blazed and signed on both ends. The western end of this section was an overgrown grassy road, which soon gave way to a nicer trail through the woods and along the north bank of the Bearcamp. Super nice bridge (Charlie Crooker Memorial Bridge) over the Bearcamp.

-Elm Hill Road walk: dirt

-Plummer Mill Pond Road walk: dirt. Explored an old grist mill site and found along the bank an old dam; there was a man-made canal-like sluice that went around the dam / mill site, capable (at one time?) of diverting water down a culvert or sluice tube into a generator house of sorts.

-Upper Road Trailhead: we were going to continue on, but a sign on a tree noted that the trail is 0.75 mile away, and this section (2.3 miles, Upper Road to Rt 113) is not open to thru hiking.

So, we'll return and hike this section, "in" from both ends, until we hit the "closed" section. (posted by a landowner)
