Bridges are nice, thank goodness they have allowed the bridges to remain. Rest of the crossings were easily rock hop-able since it has been so dang dry. |

Why are there are no blazes in the non-wilderness area but plenty of confusing xc-ski trail signs? Sad that Great Gulf trail bog bridges have all rotted away. Decently brushed narrow trails in the wilderness area, thankful for this effort! Also I don't blame the AT hikers for scratching North and South on the low information signs, seriously some distance wouldn't ruin the so called wilderness experience in the designated wilderness areas. Saw only only three people other than those on the summit of Adams and near the hut. |

Just before the scree field on the Buttress Trail the herd path is obvious and up we went and in about ten minutes we whacked a bit to our left to look over a big scree field into the Great Gulf. Straight up and fun and I led us up the to the left, looks like most make this error and then whacked a short distance to our right through a bit of thick stuff to find the path again. I was tempted to climb all the way back down to discover where I went wrong but it wasn't necessary ha ha. When we hit the scrub with a bit of work we stayed on the gravel foot bed under scrub and then its still straight up over the scree. Fun quartz cairns lead the way until nearing the intersection with the Star Lake Trail. We went over Mt. Adams and down Airline and then up to John Q's summit. We totally lucked out with the weather mostly in the sunshine while Mt. Washington stayed in the clouds, Adams was in and out of the clouds with light to no wind. What a day. We opted to descend via Buttress for the fun of it. Lovely area and good fun. |
