Comments
Comments: Signal Ridge Trail to the Carrigain Notch junction was generally dry with some minor mud.

Carrigain Notch Trail to Nancy Pond junction was increasingly damp as we headed in, due to the overnight rain. Some slippery rocks/roots, but no significant mud patches. Very good brushing job on this stretch; night and day when you cross over between Nancy Pond and Desolation (lots of undergrowth).

The first half of the Desolation Trail was smooth sailing with decent footing. The steep jumble of rocks thereafter was quite slippery. Would not want to descend this stretch in current conditions.

While peaks to the west were in the clouds, Carrigain and points east were in the clear. A little chilly up top, but not too bad.

Signal Ridge Trail was greasy in places up high. Trail needs a major work effort to stop the unmitigated erosion. Instead of the circuitious relo before the Carrigain Notch junction, I took the old trail, which is still easy to follow and much better walking (and an easier water crossing).

Hobblebush is turning red. A few isolated trees have turned, but the foliage is still mostly green (yet developing a fall tint).

Not overly crowded today. We saw no one beyond Carrigain Notch until we reached the summit.
