Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: A few small streams and drainages, all easily hopped. The largest crossing is done on a shiny new footbridge.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Most trails in good shape. I removed two small blowdowns on ONGR and trimmed a large one on BKT. High Pasture Loop is very brushy most of the way. All trails blazed well and signed well at junctions.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sure.
Bugs
Bugs: A few mosquitoes and a couple of bees who were curious about me being in their woods.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: I’m not sure why I’d never been here, but I’m glad I made it. A very cool place to hike. The lowland trails are grassy woods roads, but the hike across the peaks is fantastic, with ledgy summits, great views (yeah, the wind farm is front and center, but it didn’t bother me that much) and very interesting geology along the ridge including craggy cliffs. The col between the peaks has a wild feel.

I bushwhacked up to some cliffs south of Crosby, where I found a neat old inscription from the 1800s. While the whack was short, it was a little scrappy. Descending, I took a somewhat sketchy scramble which I missed on the way up.

Super quiet out here and aside from the summits where you can see civilization, the entire forest feels very remote. There was one other car at the trailhead when I returned, but I didn’t see anyone all day. Trails were a bit wet to start from the recent rains, but dried out quickly.
