Bushwhack from Bog Dam Rd (Kilkenny Loop Rd), Kilkenny Ridge Tr
Tired of climbing the Weeks as an out-and-back from the Hatchery, I approached the N Weeks/ Middle Weeks col from the East. FR 223 (abandoned) leaves the Bog Dam Rd 5.4 miles from the Fish Hatchery Rd and was fairly easy traveling for the first mile toward the col. The remaining whack of another mile was steeper through a mixture of ferns and hobblebush as my course paralleled Stony Brook. Now on trail: up to N Weeks, reversed course to S Weeks, reversed again over Middle and back down along Stony Brook. I enjoyed this somewhat different approach, which compared to starting and finishing at the Hatchery end, eliminates climbing N Weeks the 2nd time and shaves 1 1/2- 2 miles off the distance. Unless one enjoys bushwhacking, the usual routes probably would be preferable for most. |
