Comments
Comments: Parked at Fire Road 304A (road closed) off of Haystack Road. FR 304A is about 2/3 of a mile before the end of Haystack Road and the North Twin Trailhead. There's parking for about 3 cars. The trail starts up the fire road to a small cairn at about 0.25 miles where it turns right and follows a skidder track through a logged area that is growing back. A trail has been cut through the saplings in the clearcut area, which is to the right (west) of former bushwack routes. The cut trail leads to the herd path that runs to the summit of the Nubble. There's a nice east facing view point from here. Backing up about 50 feet leads to the herdpath that continues toward PATN. The herd path fades out to multiple light paths where the forest opens up but then reforms as you near PATN. Canister at the summit and great views to North Twin, Hale and Sugarloaf. 1 hr 20 min up, 1 hr 5 min down, plus some time enjoying the views. 1.8 miles each way, 2,000 feet of vertical gain.
