Conditions: About 8" of new snow over a firm base. With some deeper pockets up higher. We were the first ones on the trail today. The snow was more powder than heavy wet stuff, which made for some easy trail breaking. On the way back with the temps rising and some sun, the snow was starting to soften and ball up our snowshoes. We wore snowshoes all day. Met up with a group of barebooters doing fine. Trail was firm enough. At the base of the summit cone, we made a few wrong turns and had to back track a little. Stay left and and you won't have any problems. Summit was socked in with some pretty good winds. The sun decided to make an appearance on the way back. Great day out with Ed Hawkins group of 8 today. |
