Thanks for removal of blowdowns further up the trail. The beginning still has a few. Good sign at the trailhead, with info from the Forest Service concerning removal of the Mt.Langdon Shelter. |

Bring water, watch ledges. Thank you to the gentleman with the beautiful over exuberant dog for warning us and holding her so she would not jump. Very courteous and responsible! |

The shelter was mentioned by a poster a few days ago, who said some of the floorboards were soft. We used it last year, it was o.k. then. Like the poster mentioned, it's a shame to lose one of the last of its kind. I believe comments can still be made to the Forest Service.
Most people go as far as Stanton. Relatively easy, but there are eroded gravelly areas. A lot of nice flat ledges to walk on where it levels off. We were going to try to go to Langdon, both to redline and see the Crippies, but stopped at Pickering due to time. What a pretty path between Stanton and Pickering! Nice piney foot bed. Views from both mountains were incredible. Sometimes it's the little ones that have the best. Will try for one more time at that shelter before they tear it down so we can get that middle section of the Mt. Stanton Trail.
Busy weekend all over the Whites, there were actually six vehicles along the road! |
