Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Diana’s Baths were full around 2:15pm and there was a short line of cars waiting to get in. Instead of waiting, I opted to go and park at the beginning of the road to Echo Lake State Park and walk a mile to the beginning of the trail.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water levels have gone back up to about average in many areas of the Whites (it’s mostly the southern-central Whites that got hit with more rain). These crossings were still a rock hop but now on wet rocks.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trails are in good shape. I don’t recall any blowdowns anywhere. The trails are mostly blazed in yellow. Red Ridge can be a bit difficult to follow above treeline like any trail but keep an eye out for yellow blaze on the rock and cairns and you should do okay. Some avoidance of mud has widened the trail in spots but not too bad.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Just a few on the lower section of Moat Mtn Trail. Most agile hiking dogs could probably handle this hike. A bit of scrambling up higher on the Red Ridge Trail and lots of slick ledges today. Seemed like there was a good amount of water on the trail for them.
Bugs
Bugs: Some mosquitos and black flies as it was later in the day but not bad.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: Peak between North and Middle Moat

A quick little afternoon hike that was 10-11 miles done in 4hr45min not including my road walks. I’d originally planned on doing the loop over North Moat but it was late in the day and I didn’t want to be hiking out with my head lamp so I opted for an out-and-back to redline Red Ridge Trail and Red Ridge Link. The ledges were often wet and very slick even on the ascent although less so than on the descent. Beautiful and often tough walking above treeline and below treeline is a mix of easy and rough, soft, and rough footing. Red Ridge Link is steep but not excessively so. I powered through it in 11min out and 8 back.

The trails were often wet but the mud wasn’t too bad.
