Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All rock hoppable with planning and long legs. Brought water shoes just in case the overnight/morning rains swelled things, but didn't need to wade at all. Very inviting pool at the Franconia Branch crossing on Lincoln Brook Trail near 13 Falls.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One pine blow down 0.5 north of owls head. Has been limbed, but is still a step over. Old yellow blazes north of owls head are still pretty vibrant although not maintained anymore. Bog bridges north of Owl's Head on Lincoln Brook are severally deteriorated but there are supplies in place for new ones.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw one at Owl's Head summit. little guy had to be carried up part of the slide. The wet/muddy conditions would be great for some dogs, although the slide on Owl's Head would be difficult for most, especially with wet slippery rocks. Plenty of water for them though.
Bugs
Bugs: Almost none. Rain in the morning kept them at bay, but was surprised nothing came out after, given the wet trails and conditions.

Comments
Comments: Lincoln woods is, well, Lincoln woods. No troubles and got out before the crowds(if there were any given the weather). Everything was pretty wet from the rains the night before/morning so rocks were wet and slick and there was a fair amount of mud. Water crossings were all rock hops even if they required a bit of thought. Was thinking the rain may have swollen things, but none were bad. Could definitely see how they’d be rough in any kind of higher water levels. Owl's Head was as rough and steep as advertised. Wet rocks made it much worse on the way up,but things had dried out pretty much on the way down. About 10 other people on the summit just before noon(thought this was “quietest” 4K?). North of Owl's Head, Lincoln Brook really isn’t bad as far as navigation goes. Only once did I find myself questioning where the trail was and that was just because I wasn’t paying attention. Is it rough, a little over grown, in need of some maintenance, and lightly traveled? Yes but aren’t all wilderness trails? This is nothing like the quasi bushwhacking of Dry River Trail. I will say the mud is quite significant and ran along the majority of the 3.5 miles from Owl's Head to 13 Falls. Nice day other than the early rain and humidity; grabbed a couple nice views. Very nice meeting and hiking with Chuck today as well. Hope you can get to 48 with your son. Camped at 13 Falls for the night.
