Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I was able to drive all the way to the actual trailhead 0.2 mi. past the last house on Howe Hill Road in Benton in my small car. I'm guessing this road was improved for the logging operation a couple of years ago. It used to be pretty rough in spots.

Comments
Comments: Back to Black - I was just here recently. This time was via Black Mountain Trail to document it for the book. This route doesn't have the eye-popping views of Chippewa Trail, but is far more gradual and a very pleasant walk through the forest. It was a little damp to start with but dried out quickly.

From the trail junction near the summit, I continued down Chippewa Trail to the lower ledges, a favorite spot. On the way back up I left the trail and scrambled up the cliff at the west end of the summit ridge. Fun. I also wandered over to Tipping Rock for some solitude as the summit was somewhat busy and the views by the rock are better anyway.

I only saw two other people on BMT, everyone else was using Chippewa. Always a great day on this lovely peak.
